Ignore Taylor Swift! Austin Reaves and Lakers teammates on practice
There were rumors that pop superstar Taylor Swift was dating Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves in the summer before she was linked to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Despite Reaves’ swift denial of the claim, the story’s origins have been revealed. Fox Sports’ Melissa Rohlin claims that an employee of the Los Angeles Clippers cooked up the whole thing.
As Rohlin pointed out, Clippers’ social media design assistant Zain Fahimullah “fired off a tweet from a burner account on June 5 to fabricate that the two were spotted at a bar.”
The tweet was seen by 4.4 million people, and another 7.3 million people saw it after it was verbatim duplicated by an aggregate account. Fahimullah, a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers, assured Rohlin that he had no ill will when he spread the tale.
The reason for Reaves’ selection was that “Austin is the trending boy, like the Lakers’ darling of the summer,” he explained. I just got word that he signed this [four-year, $54 million] contract. He’s joining the U.S. national team. It’s much more amusing because of the difference between Austin Reaves and Taylor Swift. Austin is a country bumpkin, akin to a farmer. And Taylor Swift is this enormously popular performer. That’s probably why I went with him.”
Fahimullah stated he was surprised by the tweet’s popularity.
He said, “I’m like, ‘What?!’” This was the least amount of work I’ve ever put into a meme. And this is the one that kind of went off the rails.
Reaves, on the other hand, seemed to take the news in stride.
He exclаimed, “Wооооооооw,” drаwing оut the wоrd fоr severаl secоnds, аs nоted by Rоhlin. Thаt’s cоmpletely insаne. Thаt is hilаriоus.
