Kevin Love, a forward for the Miami Heat, is entering his sixteenth NBA season at the ripe old age of 35.

There was a period of adjustment before Love, a five-time NBA All-Star, reached his ideal playing weight.

The 6-foot-8, 255-pound rookie was originally picked by the Memphis Grizzlies in the fifth round out of UCLA in 2008 before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

It took Love until his third year in the league to make it to his first All-Star game, despite being nominated to the NBA’s All-Rookie Second Team that year.

Love was moved to the Cavaliers from the Timberwolves after six years and three All-Star appearances.

Love dropped to 240 pounds because he thought the Cavaliers would use him prominently in their offense.

For 2016, he told Sports Illustrated, “I thought we’d run, run, run and I’d need to be really slender,” and he later added, “I got too skinny.”

In the years that followed, he altered his diet once more, citing fatty fish as a major factor in his long life when speaking to Business Insider during his eighth and final full season in Ohio.

“I eat a lot of fatty fish, and, being from the Pacific Northwest, my diet consists of a lot of salmon,” said Love.

I’ve noticed that everyone has a different diet. Eating foods that reduce inflammation and provide me energy to go through an NBA season is a top priority for me.

“I also make sure to avoid excessive carbohydrates and sugars.”

Love won the 2016 NBA Finals with the Cavaliers and was a two-time All-Star while he was a member of the team.

The club exercised its option to buy him out of his contract in February 2023.

Soon later, Love signed with the Heat, and after being demoted to the bench in Cleveland, he was restored to the starting lineup.
